Jeremy and I have been talking alot about getting a dog over the past few months and we have finally decided that we are ready to rescue a boxer! I love boxers and have grown up with them since I was little. I can't imagine owning another breed, they have to be one of the sweetest, loving, fun breeds out there. We decided to rescue through an organization called Legacy Boxer Rescue (www.savetheboxers.com). They have a pretty stringent application and interview process so I hope we make the cut. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we hear something positive soon! It's been a very difficult decision for me to decide that I am ready for another dog as my sweet boxer boy, Beau passed away this year (His story is below). I didn't know if I was ready to share my heart with another puppy yet, but after doing some research and reading a ton about the dogs at LBR I decided that I am ready. There are a lot of sad stories on the site about boxers that haven't made it and who have been really badly treated by previous owners, but there are also tons of stories of neglected pups that have gotten second chances and are now loved and cared for in their "forever homes". If you are at all interested in adopting a boxer you should check out the site. The is so much information on what to expect in owning a boxer and also tons of cute pictures and stories of available boxers.
As some of my close family and friends know, my parents boxer, Beau passed away this year. My mom and I got him for my dad when I was in college as a birthday present although I kinda keep him as my own. I pretty much raised Beau, he came every where with me and I took care of him like he was my baby. You probably have never seen a more spoiled dog. My mom even quilted him his own blanket that he snuggled with on the couch. He was diagnosed with Lymphoma last year and was quite a fighter! He was on chemo for several months, but his body just couldn't handle it anymore. My parents had to put Beau down because he was in so much pain. It broke my heart and I cried for several weeks, I still cry pretty often just thinking about how much I loved him and how much I miss him. Beau loved other dogs, especially boxers, when we would take him to the dog park he always seemed to gravitate towards them. He would have loved to have a boxer brother or sister to play with and I'm so sad that he isn't here to meet our new addition. He was incredibly loved by our family and is missed every day!
Some of my favorite picture of my sweet Beau!
This is when he was just a couple of months old. I took him every where and spoiled him rotten!
He was even with me when Jeremy asked me to marry him! I think he was just as excited as I was, he at least jumped around as much as I did. This picture was right after I calmed down and he was exhausted from all the excitement!
Beau loved to be carried around like a baby! He was such a lap dog, he loved to snuggle and be close to his family.
Hugs!
This was one of the last pictures I took of Beau. Jeremy and I had just taken him on a walk and he was all tuckered out, he loved to go on walks and be outside.
We love you Beau!
I'll keep you posted on the adoption progress!
Loves!
