Linking up with Taylor for Top Two Tuesday - What I've learned about relationships!

I definitely don’t consider myself to be a relationship expert, but I feel that I’ve learned a lot in my short time being in relationships. I’ve been in one of the worst relationships I could imagine and I’m currently in the best relationship I could imagine.

1. "The first time someone shows you who they are, believe them." - Maya Angelou

This saying is applicable in all relationships.

I spent far too long with someone who didn’t treat me right, didn’t care, and was pretty much indifferent about me. I turned a blind eye to a lot of things starting very early in our relationship and in turn lost value in myself and forgot who I was. He showed me who he was several times and it took years for me to figure out that I didn’t deserve how he treated me and that I was worth more.

I then found Jeremy and was taken aback to how kind, caring, and loving he was. I was treated so badly for so long I forgot how I should be treated. When I realized that he was genuine it completely changed my thinking on relationships.

I now trust my intuition about people’s actions and let it guide me rather than making excuses for them.

2. Learn each other’s love language. Me and Jeremy are totally different when it comes to what we need to feel loved and it took us a little bit to figure it out. I won’t go into all the mushy gushy details, but he loves needs to be praised. I know this and I constantly make an effort to do so. It makes him happy, confident, and feel loved. So why wouldn’t I try to do that for him? My love language is different and he in turn makes a conscience effort to fill my "love tank" in my language It gives me butterflies and makes me feel all kinds of mushy when I know he is doing things to speak to my love language!

And one more… The most important one!

3. The bible has amazing teachings on marriage! Everyone laughs when I tell them I had to take a Christian Home class in undergrad, but it taught me how to be a wife and what is important in marriage. God put forth teachings on marriage for a reason, and they work! Christ should always be the center of a marriage and spouses should love one another as Christ loved the church!

Ephesians 5:22-33

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church
for we are members of his body.
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.
However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Link up and let us know what you've learned!!!
